Cosmetic Dentistry
What is cosmetic dentistry?
As the name implies, cosmetic dentistry is the art and science of improving the appearance of teeth. It can also be compared to a facelift, which reverses the process of ageing of teeth.
Different types of treatments
Modern dentistry offers a wide range of dental solutions. These can be categorized as:
- Inlays / Onlays – as against fillings, which are molded into place inside the mouth, when you visit a dentist in order to get your cavities filled, inlays and outlays are prepared in a laboratory before being fitted into your mouth. These are generally made from porcelain or composite materials and are long lasting.
- Composite bonding – this treatment is used to repair chipped, broken, discolored or decayed teeth. A material resembling enamel and dentin is applied onto the cavity or on the surface of teeth, which is then sculpted into shape, contoured and hardened with a high-intensity light. This makes the restoration to blend with the natural look of the teeth.
- Whitening – also called teeth bleaching, this treatment helps to lighten discolored teeth.
- Dental veneers – these are custom made laminates, bonded to the surface of tooth. It is also recommended for filling gaps between teeth.
- Dental implants – this is artificial tooth implant to compensate for lost teeth.
- Smile makeovers – this is the process to improve the overall aesthetics of your smile. It generally requires one or more of the processes mentioned above.
- Gum lift – this process is used to raise and sculpt the gum line.
