Oral Care: Keep the smile perfect

Most dental problems can be kept at bay by taking simple precautions. Regular cleaning and flossing are a compulsory to maintain healthy gums.

Easy Dental Care:

  • Make sure you floss your teeth once every day after your meals and brush twice a daily.
  • Cut down on the intake of sugar in any form, and this includes peppermints too.
  • While brushing, make sure that you use circular motions on the five surfaces, which form the front, back, the two sides and the chewing surface. Do not use too much toothpaste on the brush as it would result in too much foam and cause you to rinse earlier than recommended.
  • When choosing a tooth brush, make sure that its head is small enough to reach into all parts of your mouth and the bristles should be soft or medium in nature, never hard. Expensive brushes might not be the answer to your dental problems. Next time you go to buy your brush, make sure you choose it correctly.

Visiting a dentist:

A dental check up every six months is a good practice; however you need to be prepared for dental emergencies too:

  • If you have a broken or a chipped tooth, arrange to see a dentist immediately. The extent of damage would be determined by your dentist and will be treated accordingly
  • Toothaches can vary from cavities to dental abscess around your tooth. Have your tooth evaluated if the pain is severe or there is a swelling or pus formation.
  • Redness or swelling of gums could be gingivitis or any other gum disease. It may not need immediate attention as in the case of traumatic dental issues, but a visit to the dentist during times like these should not be delayed.
  • Over a period of time, do induce the habit of massaging your gums so that they remain healthy.
The key to healthy teeth and gums is regular care; so look after them and get the perfect smile!
